Installing Apache, MySQL and PHP on Windows XP

This guide explains how to install Apache (1.3.x), PHP (4.x) and MySQL (3.23) on Windows XP. This guide is mainly aimed at webmasters who would like to have a local Apache, MySQL, PHP environment in order to develop websites without the need for constant uploading and/or a connection to the Internet.

This guide is not intended to show you how to set up a publicly accessible web server - the installation of such a server would need to take into consideration all sorts of security and performance issues which this particular guide will not address.


There are four main steps to follow to create and test an Apache, PHP, MySQL environment on Windows XP:
