Creating an Airport Extreme wireless network

Step 3 - network settings

If you don't want to share an Internet connection with other network users through this base station, your wireless network should now be complete. Otherwise, read on for important information.

Instructions:

If you are sharing an Internet connection over the Airport Base Station, then you will need to have the "Distribute IP Addresses" checkbox ticked.

It is your choice whether to use 1 IP address or share a range of IP addresses. The difference is having the Airport base station IP address as the gateway address of all your client computers, or your modem's IP address as the gateway.

If using NAT (Network Address Translation) is no problem for you (i.e. you don't mind the other computers being in "passive" mode) then use the "Share a Single IP Address" option as it adds another level of security to your network.
